The grinder stops suddenly mid-cut with no warning, and pulling the switch trigger again does nothing
The tool/battery protection system has tripped — overload, overheating or a near-empty battery — rather than a fault in the grinder itself; in some cases repeated tripping locks the tool until the battery is recharged

The chainsaw won't start — nothing happens when the switch trigger is pulled, even with a battery fitted
Usually one of several separate start conditions rather than a fault: a missing second battery, an unreleased chain brake, the lock-off button not pressed first, or the tool/battery protection system silently blocking a start

The mower won't start — nothing happens when the switch lever is pulled, even with a battery fitted
Almost always the start sequence or a battery/lock-key check rather than a fault — the DLM380 needs two charged batteries, the lock key fitted, and the switch button pressed before the lever is pulled

The saw chain keeps moving even after the chain brake lever has been engaged
Worn brake band inside the clutch drum, which no longer grips hard enough to stop the chain when the brake is applied

Charger flashes red and green alternately when a battery is fitted, and the battery never starts charging
Makita's own manual gives two causes for this specific pattern — contaminated terminals on the charger or the battery, or a battery cartridge that is worn out or damaged

Circular saw's lower blade guard returns slowly after a cut, hangs partway, or has to be flicked shut by hand
Resin and compacted sawdust in the guard's pivot ring binding its rotation — occasionally a stretched or detached return spring
