The money bit

Affiliate Disclosure

ToolFaultFinder uses Amazon affiliate links. Some links to parts and consumables on this site are tagged with our Amazon Associates tracking ID. If you buy something after following one, Amazon pays us a small commission. It costs you nothing extra — the price is the same as it would be without the link.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

If you're not in the UK

Our links go to Amazon UK, because this is a UK site — the prices we quote are in pounds and the parts we name are the ones sold here. About half our readers are not in the UK, and Australia is our second-largest country, so to be plain about it: many parts on Amazon UK do ship internationally, but some won't, and you may well do better searching your own local Amazon for the part name we give. The part names and any manufacturer numbers are the useful bit — the link is just a convenience.

What does not change

The verdict comes first and the parts list comes after it. Every entry on this site answers “is it worth fixing?” honestly, including the many cases where the answer is that the fix is free, or that the tool is not worth the parts. Those verdicts are written from the sources, before anyone looks at whether a part is purchasable, and they are not rewritten to sell anything.

In practice that means a lot of pages here have no parts list at all. A grinder that needs a £6 pair of brushes gets a parts list; a jigsaw cutting at an angle because it is being pushed too hard does not, because nothing needs buying. A site that always finds something for you to buy is a shopping site wearing a repair site's clothes, and it would be obvious.

Part numbers

Where we give a manufacturer's part number it comes from a real document — a manual, a parts diagram, or an official support page — not from a shopping listing. We leave the number out rather than guess it, because a wrong part number costs you money. Check any part against your own tool's model and serial before ordering; ranges get revised, and the same model name can cover more than one part.

Questions

If anything here looks like it is pointing you at a purchase you do not need, we would genuinely rather know. Tell us, or leave a comment on the entry itself — corrections are published.
